Highlights of Main Achievements

 

Main achievements of the 2000-2005 Osteoporosis and Elderly people’s plight advocacy program may be summarized as follows.

 

·         Breaking the silence of the Osteoporosis pandemic and the plight of the elderly people in the East African region through constant newspaper publications.

 

·         Restoration of hope that bent back and pains associated with Osteoporosis can be prevented and treated.

 

·         Petitioned the government to give attention to the plight of the elderly health in the East African countries.

 

·         Refuted the long held myth that Africans do not suffer from Osteoporosis.

 

·         Prompted a national debate in Kenya on the presence and effects of Osteoporosis in the East African region chaired by Eli Lilly in conjunction with the Kenya Medical Women’s Association (KEMWA).

 

·         Brought a fresh understanding of osteoporosis pandemic to the attention of health professionals in the African context.
